About this land node

The Prisca Family Household Epicenter is a 4-acre smallholder homestead in the Rugarama area of northern Kagadi District, within Uganda's mid-western Bunyoro region. The family's transformation began in 2023 when Prisca, the last born of eight siblings, joined the URDT Girls School in Senior One and attended the one-week orientation workshop with her mother, learning the two-generation approach and the Visionary Approach. Together they drew a five-year family vision to have a permanent house in good condition and establish income-generating projects including cocoa, coffee, bananas, and piggery. Before joining, the family lived in a small house and had a banana plantation in poor condition with no income-generating projects. Now in year four of their vision, the family has renovated and extended their house, improved their banana plantation through mulching, weeding, and pruning, planted coffee seedlings provided by the school, established cocoa, and built a piggery of eight pigs that provide manure for the bananas and cash income for school requirements. The homestead sits on undulating terrain within the Victoria Basin forest-savanna mosaic at roughly 1,100 to 1,200 metres elevation, surrounded by ferrallitic soils fed by bi-modal rains averaging 1,000 to 1,500 mm per year, in a landscape drained by the Muzizi and Nkusi river systems flowing westward into Lake Albert. School Community Development Officer Livia monitors the family's progress twice yearly as part of the URDT Girls School programme.

Overview

Project Vision
We envision our homestead as a thriving family enterprise where our permanent house stands fully completed and painted, where two acres of cocoa, two acres of banana plantation, and two acres of coffee generate reliable income, and where our piggery provides both manure for soil health and cash for school requirements. Prisca aspires to study at university and become an Epicenter Manager, helping people in her village develop through their own creativity. Within twenty years, we see our family as proof that a large household of eight siblings, guided by a shared vision drawn with their mother at the URDT Girls School, can transform from a small house with poor banana plantation into a model of diversified, self-sustaining agriculture, inspiring neighbouring families to draw their own visions and work toward them with action steps, accountability, and due dates.
Project Purpose
To demonstrate that a girl student from a large rural family, empowered by the URDT Girls School two-generation approach, can catalyse her entire household's transformation from subsistence farming into a diversified, vision-driven enterprise that renovates its home, establishes piggery and perennial tree crops, improves banana agronomics, funds the education of eight siblings, and inspires neighbouring villagers to develop through their own creativity and effort
